On the topic of characters who, given the current state of the site rules and regulations, are not likely to be seen in the collective database.  This one comes to mind.

Fayalki, aka: RDI Hunter, was an integral part of the RDI/Rhydin community at large.  Nearly everybody knew about him.

On May 22nd of this year, the player passed away.  There is an article about it in Issue #82 of Ubique's Weekly, as viewed on Mutual Endeavors.  The facts surrounding this article were provided to me by his long-time role-play partner, alias: Dechirant.

I think he deserves a place in any Rhydin related collective database, even this one.  The question then falls:  Who is responsible for the article?  Who is going to write it and put it up?

Personally, I think Dey should be the one to do it, but I really don't know her that well and don't even know how to address the topic.  I don't even know what was decided about his character, whether or not Fayalki also passed on or what.  As far as I know, they could have written that the character retired with his family deep into the country, never to be seen nor heard from ever again.

This, I think, requires some research and serious thought.  I'll look into it myself, but I'd appreciate some other input.

I tip my hat to you Ehz. I didn't know Fayalki or even of him until I heard of his passing.

It makes me curious. It makes me want to know more about him. I too have one that I wish remembered in Rhy'Din -- he wasn't nearly as famous but he made a great impact. Which brings to mind a suggestion/thought.

What if there was a special sub-category of sorts dedicated to characters and/or mundanes behind these characters that are, for one reason or another, no longer with us? In said subcategory or however you'd wish to put it, why not include a section for those that knew the person to tell what they knew about him/her?
A sort of round-robin chronicling, I suppose. For lack of a more accurate term.

So yes. I wish to know about Fayalki. I'd like to know his story. I do that -- I ask about people, events, places, groups and the history behind them. Those I learn about, I tend to kind of chronicle. Kind of.
Someone at an SCA event nicknamed me "the chronicler". It's what I did. I asked, I listened to other stories and I remembered them.

So why not have a similar sort of thing here?

I don't see any need for a sub category here.

The current version of the Moderation Guide allows Rhydin Wiki contributors to write articles about characters in Rhydin which they didn't create or play.  The original creator/player must be credited, and obviously sources and NPOV are crucial any time you're writing about someone else's creation.

If anyone wants to create or collaborate on an article for Fayalki, feel free.

Just to touch on the chronicling of those who have passed on, we do hope that each user will take up the role of a chronicler.  It would be good to see articles honoring those characters with the facts of their roleplayed stories.

It may be that if we end up with dozens of articles about those who have passed on, we could at that point examine the need for such a subcategory.

I would definitely like to see an article on Fayalki, and I hope many contribute to it.  Dey and I talk from time to time, though I think there are others that probably keep in more regular contact.  If the opportunity comes up, I can pass on the idea of her providing what she feels comfortable in regards to Fayalki.  Does anyone know if she knows of the Rhydin Wiki?  I don't want to pester if someone has already contacted her.

Well if anyone likes or won't mind, I could start gathering info and beginning that chronicling -- Mind, I don't know much about the man but I want to know. Anyone know where I might be able to find out about him?

And this may sound like a dumb question but do forgive me -- Five hours of straight study a day for final exams is turning my brain on a rotisserie spit...Articles such as this would go at least for now under "Characters", yes?

I have not contacted Dey.  Don't know about anyone else, though.  If she checks the DM forums at all, there's a link there that she might have seen.  I honestly don't know her all that well.

I spoke with Dey last night.  She's very pleased to hear of a page for Fayalki.  She is like the Fayalki museum, having tons of information.  She sent me one of his character pictures, and I found one of his old AOL profiles. It will be a work in progress, but it will be done.   Smiley

That is an excellent start.

I would also like to include memorable quotes from Fayalki somewhere in this article. Like, the text of his wedding ceremony (I'll look for that when I get home), maybe some examples of the use of his tomahawk or the tally board.  Any other ideas?
