The History of Rhydin article would probably be closely tied to a History of the Red Dragon Inn article.
Does anyone have any resources on the (OOC) development of Rhydin? It would be interesting to track where and how long ago it surfaced, who the people involved it in were, and how it's changed.

Ok I see a couple links in that article, is it gonna be a timeline article, or how's it going to be done... or is it just going to point to other sites? What do ya have planned for the article?

I would personally like to ask Julie if she will either submit her timeline herself or allow us to to so and use it word-for-word.
If not, I'll try to find the time to paraphrase it and incorporate what records I have, but there's kind of a monumental scope to this.

Again, I was just defeating the red links.
I agree. I think Julie should be contacted for that article. Hers, in my opinion, the one on FFGroup, is the most accurate one I've seen yet.

The one on DM is a rewrite of the one done by Sid, done so with her permission and blessing.
I added to it based on my own experience, research in to events from AOL's public relations site, and what-not.
I am wondering if she is going to be cited as the source if anyone asked her permission to post her real name?

I saw in the first History webpage linked to the article (the one that Sid did) that the page itself gave copyright info with Sid's RL name... but I don't think it's a good idea to put other people's RL names here in the wiki like that (and since that was in RDIFayalki's webspace, she probably can't even get in there to edit it out...). Prolly better to let them put their own RL name in the wiki article if that's what they want, you know?
Also, can we paraphase those two articles or make like a timeline, instead of making the article about the sites its linking to? If that makes sense.

It can be seen on the FFGroup page linked to, at the very bottom. "Julie (Sid's mun)" With some emoticon that I don't remember off the top of my head right now. As I understand it, she gave her blessing and permission for Fayalki to put it on that site as is. Including the signature line with her name at the bottom. Though it may be prudent to ask her and verify. Unfortunately, short of AOL finally shutting the site down itself, or someone else having access to the account to fix it, I don't forsee that being changed any time soon.

I've PM'd Sid to ask her about contributing to the wiki and the use of her IRL name on the wiki. In the interim, I took her name out of the article. It can be reverted back in once I've heard from her. In the future, do not post someone's real life name to the Wiki or these forums unless they've already provided that information here on their own or you have contacted them for permission and obtained the okay to do so. If you're unsure, use their screen name. I would like start to build on the information provided in the "Real History of the Red Dragon Inn" at http://rdi.dragonsmark.com/history.php. Given that it's been published at DM under a CC Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike license, that should be fine, but I'll wait on that pending the ok from Panther and from Sid. edited to fix typo.

That's fine... my page is more RDI specific/centered... or maybe as broad as what the FFGF was.
I can see the time line here being more general as far as RhyDin content goes.
I do ask that if there's something added here that is more specific to the RDI, SEB, or areas that we have as part of DM that I can mirror that stuff on my page. I probably could add a footnote on my page directing folks to the entry here for history on items outside the scope of just the RDI.

I received a response from Sid that we can feel free to use her timeline that Fayalki put up and Panther incorporated for DM. She's not the author of the first part, however, and that's noted on Fayalki's site. She doesn't mind her first name, Julie, being put back up there, but pointed out that Fayalki's page corrects her as RDI Obsdn (no 'y'), so we should use the proper spelling.
I would like to create the article, starting with the DM history, verbatim. I will probably have to change the tone in some parts, and there may be some more details I want to add, but I'll post it here in draft to get feedback as I go.

Alright. I updated the History of Rhydin with some modifications to DM’s Real History of the Red Dragon Inn. I think the modifications are pretty minor: the tone is bit more neutral now, the tense is different, and I took out the references to AOL versions (but kept in the member milestones) There’s probably a better way to organize it, but I can’t figure it out right now. This should probably be a broad, all-inclusive OOC timeline. I would kind of like to see separate timelines about the RDI, SEB, Duels, and various guild forums, with more of an IC focus, but I don't know if that's possible. Thoughts? Formatting still needs some work. The article could probably use bolding for emphasis and it might need more white space. There’s also a lot more information that could be added. Some ideas I have: - I seem to remember getting stuck in RDI 6 or 7 a couple times, so I need to go back through old chat logs and see if I can figure out what year that was in. 1996 or 1997, probably.
- FOES, SOULS, Crystal Fortress - anyone have anything on those? I remember FOES and SOULS and probably could dig up some information on them for Organizations articles, but Crystal Fortress was before my time.
- When did the FFGF start being called the Red Dragon Inn Forum?
- What other FFGF/RDIF rooms were there that aren’t listed? Crosswinds Tavern? What were the names of the rooms the Duels were hosted in?
- Timeline of CL host prefixes: RDI, Host PCG, Host Game. When did RDI become unrestricted?
- Do you think it would be appropriate to referencePowerTools or other third party programs used by roleplayers and/or CL Hosts?
- What about Guides who were "in character" when summoned to the Inn?

I'll have to see if I can dig up some of the information. I was a Board Mod during a number of the changes.

Now I'm going to have to do some disagreeing. The History of Rhydin is not, and should not be, limited solely to its RDI connections. There is so much more to Rhydin (however you want to spell it) than the old FFGF on AOL. There do exist people who played in that world and city setting who had never heard of PAP or the RDI rooms. There were also those who did hear of it, and for whatever reason chose not to be a part of it. Such as those who still play in the Medieval Tavern.
Out of curiosity, did anyone (or does anyone know anyone who did) have a Commodore 64 with the old Q-Link program who might remember the RDI from there before AOL took over? I'm researching as much as I can. I feel that the current article reads solely as a History of the RDI and FFGF and not as a history of Rhydin as a whole.
Definitely room for improvement.

Ehz, did you intend to discuss some specific additions, or are you just making a general statement of disagreement about what is currently up there?
Please review the Community Guidelines, particularly regarding not complaining unless you have some helpful ideas for improvement. If you have some specific additions or changes to discuss, let's talk about working them in.
