I originally created the idea. . . .  I needed to do so because my main character was long known to be a  retired "traveler" (akin to the Time Guardians created by Robert Heinlein or the Time Lords of Dr. Who).

Was that main character Zonker or someone else? It would be neat to use that character as a "reference" or example to illustrate some of the comments.

The quote change you made helped.  The article could still use some more formatting, but there's a good core there now.

On a side note, I've always viewed the Nexus and Nexus travel as a combination of Zelazny's Pattern&Order/Logrus&Chaos  and Raymond Feist's Hall of Worlds and rifts, so there's at least a third theory that can be touched on.  When I get time.

I reverted Ehzoterik's addition of the words "Some believe" to the phrase "In Rhydin, the Nexus is expressed as the Red Dragon Inn."

Please review the Style Guide, particularly about using weasel words.

Also, please review the Moderation Guide, particularly about making edits that significantly alter the original meaning of a phrase.  Discuss first, come to a consensus, then make changes.

There's room enough for everyone's view of the Nexus in Rhydin without insisting one is right or wrong, more valid than another theory, or believed only by "some".

All articles should be written from a neutral, factual, historical point of view, whether IC or OOC.

Do not speculate, do not criticize, do not embellish it with your own point of view.

If you submit an article which contains both IC and OOC perspectives, do not intermingle those two points of view. One part of the article should be IC, the other should be OOC.

I suggest, then, that the article be altered to make it abundantly clear on these above bolded points.  Currently it reads as: This is absolute fact, no alternatives.

In my opinion, it is just as fair to say "some believe" this and "some believe" that.  In fact, it is more fair to state it that way than it is to say "this is absolute."

"Some believe this" and "Some believe that" are weasel words.  Again -- review the Style Guide, okay?

Additionally - I think adding "Some believe" applies your own point of view.

The article will be revised to show that each concept is valid.  Not tonight, though.

That's fine. Notably: I made my edit before I noticed that Zonker had revised it to read as two separate theories.  Might I suggest restructuring theory 2 to resemble the structure of theory 1?

http://www.rhydinwiki.com/index.php?title=Nexus -- suggested revision below.

I renamed the two theories so they’re a little more descriptive:
Theory I - The Nexus: A Force of Chaos
Theory II - The Nexus: A Force of Collective Existence

Not quite happy with those names, so maybe someone can come up with something better?  Whatever we decide on, the article on Nexus Points should be changed to match.

I added subheadings for Basic definition, Study and use, and Nexus Points.

I removed some wording that didn’t seem to provide any information except to deny or counter the precepts of one definition.  I think each definition is good enough to stand on its own without explicit comparison to the other.

I altered some passive wording and removed some duplicative wiki links in the second definition (only the first mention in an article should be linked, not every mention).

Let me know what you (everyone) think of the suggested revision below.  If you have a specific concern, let’s work it out.

The Nexus: A Force of Chaos
Basic definition
The Nexus is defined as the chaotic, generative force behind reality.  It is the energy of creation, the quintessential source of everything in the Multiverse.

Study and use
*Direct evaluation of the Nexus has proved highly dangerous, thus study of the Nexus’s nature is generally an arcane endeavor involving speculation and philosophical discussion between Arch-Mages.

*As Nexus energy is nearly pure Chaos, most attempts to directly access the Nexus result in a fatal “reordering” of a mage’s “personal Order.”  This seems true regardless of whether such attempts are magical, physical, or psionic in nature.

*While several have suggested the Nexus may be a sentient entity, no hard evidence exists to support this theory.

Nexus Points
*Those devoted to the study of the Nexus have determined that the chaotic Nexus interacts with different planes at ordered Nexus Points, usually in a manner that local sentients can comprehend.  In Rhydin, the Nexus is expressed as the Red Dragon Inn.

*The dimensions of Time and Space intersect with the Nexus at Nexus Points, forming a metaphysical connection that remains largely unexplored by most.

The Nexus - A Force of Collective Existence=
Basic definition
The Nexus is made up of the collective existence (i.e. lifeforce) of all living things within the Multiverse (though the collective unconscious of sentient beings provides the largest influence).  It is a generated and a generative force that runs through all Time and Space.

Study and use
*The Nexus can be accessed, understood and controlled.  Use of the Nexus stems from a type of psionic control wherein one can learn to or instinctively produce or absorb the required amount of power to bring a localized amount of Nexus force to a required level.

*The raising and lowering of concentrated Nexus energy can be done unconsciously or subconsciously, explaining why some individuals get "seized by the Nexus" unawares.

Nexus Points
*Nexus Points exist where the Nexus force occurs naturally at, or so near, the required level that "portals" open and close with little or no additional effort.

*Throughout the Multiverse, in “elsewhens” and “elsewheres” like Rhydin, it takes very little effort to reach the required level of Nexus energy that opens and closes portals. In such places, Nexus travel may be either purposeful or accidental and eventually becomes quite commonplace.
