I realize that the article for Rhydin Election of 2007 comes across with a bit of bias, so if anyone wants to take a stab at couching it in more neutral language, go for it.

Addressing where the idea for the election came from, Panther wrote on the Mutual Endeavors forums that “I think it started with a couple of players on Rings of Honor... some sort of bet or something maybe, and since we were hosting both DoF and DoS nights at the time, things quickly carried over tween sites... and soon others were throwing their hat in the ring.”

If you have more information about the election, how it started, who the initial RoH players were that came up with the idea, behind the scenes insight, etc., please update the article!

LOL!  I wish I could help you with that.  All I really remember about the election is that my character nominated the Easter Bunny and stirred up political crap, took potshots at Talomar Longden and became Helston's Sumatran connection.

I only really know, so far, through the research I've been doing, that Kitty's not even been in office for an entire year.  Seems she was voted in in January.  Gave her inaugural speech in February.  And anything even remotely related to it seems to be in two folders on Dragon's Mark.  The election folder (I think on the bulletin board) and the Governor's Office.  Somewhere...

I'll look into it when I get a chance.  Dig up something...

I've been mulling over a separate article for Rhydin Governor.  I need to pull out some of the stuff Kitty's player wrote for The Oracle earlier in the year.  I think there was also some relevant stuff about cleaning up the streets of West End in the Scathachian folders.

I don't know if the Powers That Be at Dragon's Mark have plans to hold another "election" for 2008.

I don't think anyone does.  Though my best guess is that they probably plan to keep it as close to real world American type elections as they can.  With a certain year(s) term in office.  You might have to talk to Kitty directly about that and see what she knows.  I mean, she should.  She's the governor!

I've seen a couple posts popping up here and there at Dragon's Mark about the 2008 election for Rhydin Governor.  Should we wait for more information on that before starting an article?

Yeeeah.  I saw that too.  So much for my earlier speculations!

I think... If we have enough information to start working with, a new article could be started and added to as this new election SL progresses.  May be easier to add and edit to it as the actual play goes along than to sit and wait and put all this information together later.

As an example: I'm having one hell of a time figuring out how to summarize the Great Redcap Hunt.  That SL's been dead for two years now, despite it being worked on in those two years.  I'm also terrible at summaries.

just a clarification... the election last year was entirely player driven. I believe it started out with some comments tossed out in the Duels initially and carried over to the RDI because we were hosting DoF and DoS on a regular basis then. I have heard a few people talking about running this year... so if it happens, again it will be player driven.

I added a section on the forums simply to have a central location for the player to post stuff relevant to the overall storyline.

There have been talks. Talomar refuses to run and I know I won't be running Illyona in it again.

Hi!

The Rhydin Election of 2007 was started by me on the RoH.  I made a joking comment at some point that G was going to run for Governor. (I'm going to just replace "G" with "I" for simplicity's sake.)

I don't know exactly when I made the original comments, but it was something I did mainly during live RP.  Then at one point, Amaltea approached me to write something in the Oracle about it.  I thought it was a good idea and so I came up with something.  Shortly thereafter, she IMed me again discussing the possibility of doing a real election.  That Talomar had apparently heard of this "election" and was interesting in doing something along those lines.  Amal wanted my thoughts on it.

Discussing it, it sounded like a really interesting idea for a cross forum SL.  My original intentions when I discussed this with Amal was to just run it as a simple 2 person election for the first time.  With myself representing the RoH and Talomar representing the RDI.  It was a good idea.  The basis for this was to see how interested people might be for an actual "Governor of Rhydin."  If there was enough interest in the first one, then my intent was to have another election after one years time.  It was always going to be a 1 RL Year job for the elected character.

In the 2008 Election, keeping in mind this is what I had thought and talked with Amal about months before the 2007 election, we hoped for candidates from both forums, multiple ones from RoH and RDI.  Then, we would hold a primary.  I wanted to whittle down the candidates who entered from whatever number down to two, like how they do it in the presidential elections.  Then those two would enter a period of standard debating, slander, etc. that politicians do, etc. until the final elections were held.  We would then have a single Governor from 2008 to 2009.

There were problems that started in the 2007 election.  I found myself having some trust issues and with how things were seemingly played out.  Then, when Kitty left G'nort's election campaign to run on her own, I was taken a bit by surprise because I had no idea that she either wanted to do that, or was feeling driven to go on her own.  It didn't bother me that she left, that's very important.  However, there went my initial idea that this first election go only between 2 people.  Still, 3 people wasn't a bad thing.  After all, the Dems and Repubs have to deal with that Independent party all the time.  But then Imp, Easter Bunny, Superman and Illyona entered and suddenly I wondered where this was headed.  My intent was for it to be more of a fun but serious SL, and seeing the Bunny and Superman entered confused me and had me wondering what the point of the Governor deal was.

So anyway, half-heartedly, I continued with the Governor Election SL with stories and "Hey vote for me" things in both the RDI *and* the RoH.  It's important to note that The RoH was involved too, it wasn't just an RDI thing.  Amal set up the votes(We had decided like, in September or October that it'd be best to start the campaigning in December, and hold the votes at the end of January.)  Anyway, she set up the votes in both the RDI and the RoH.  We would then combine both vote tallies and see who would win.  Each character was only supposed to vote ONCE on ONE forum.  That's important to note.  There were some who voted on multiple characters on both sites.  Like Bob voted with Bob, Lou and Jim on the RDI, and then voted with Bob, Lou and Jim on the RoH.  That was against the rules we had set up.  So, those votes were dumped.  There was another trust issue damaged.

In the end, Kitty won the election as I knew she would.  She probably deserved it anyway not just for popularity, but because she did a good job in her campaigning.  I think Kitty's player has done a phenomenal job with the Governor post after her election, and admittedly with how I was at the time, she probably was more active *as Governor* than I probably would have been.  Now is a different story, though.

Anyway, It's December 2007, and we are going to hold another Election.  G'nort is announcing his Candidacy in the Oracle in his article for that publication.  So, we can look forward to another set of posts on the RDI and RoH of political drama.  Hopefully, we'll do a better voting booth thing than the way it was before.

In short, I came up with the Election in 2006, Tal was interested and Amal brought us both together to start it running, more people entered, and to me, I think that it was a successful cross forum SL event that people still play off of today, which is great.  Yes, it has it's bumps and bruises along the way, but it was still good.

I can get around to editing some of that Wiki entry once I'm approved for editing if you want. Smiley

Thanks!

I jumped in with Illyona because of a few issues going on just to give people another candidate to chose from. Illyona's family is known as the power behind the throne and has extensive political skills.

It was to make things more interesting. Wink

This year we have a Marxist looking to "stamp out illiteracy and give everyone employment." Talomar is not running, though the Vampires and Were-creatures are in negotiations for something big. Myself, I'm not going to be running, though if there is a need for an adviser or assistant, Illyona available for interviews Wink

Oh gosh.

Just so everyone knows, I had NO intention of Kitty actually winning.  I made no effort in campaigning other than tossing out the occasional icon "button" after I posted her plan to run as well.   No posters or speeches.  There was a pointed avoidance of the mud-slinging.  A few of her friends did some poster mauling, but she didn't know who it was even though I did as a player.

And I shall blame Alysia!   While Kitty was lamenting how frustrating G'nort was, Alysia made the suggestion of why didn't Kitty run?  It's her fault!   That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

But yes, I really didn't expect Kitty to win.  Yes, everyone knows her, but crimeny, it's KITTY for pete's sake!  Her moral fiber is in the grey area at best.  I mean, sure she'll kick the butt of anyone who threatens her friends.  But when fights normally broke out in the Inn or wherever and nobody she knew was involved, she loved to get a bag of popcorn and just watch the fireworks.  Not to mention her reputation as Helston is quite... ah colorful.

However, when Kitty did win I realized I had gotten her into this mess, so I'd better see it through.  I wasn't as active as I would've liked, but real life issues do take priority.   You'll note that she didn't run for re-election though.   Grin
